Fact: The name “Highlanders” reflects the influence of the Scottish immigrants who settled in this region. RU athletic teams have proudly carried that nickname into competition since the mid-1970s. In 2005, the university introduced a new Highlander mascot depicting the rugged, competitive spirit of our athletic programs.
