Porterfield, Young, Davis, and McGuffey Halls can also be accessed from the Main Campus Entrance. Porterfield is home to the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Pridemore Playhouse, located near the front entrance of Porterfield, has hosted numerous performances, many of which have included artists-in-residence. Over the years, famous film and television actors, such as Sally Struthers, Vic Tayback, John Amos, Karen Grassle and Ted Lange, have joined the cast of memorable RU performances.

WVRU, the university’s radio station, is also located in Porterfield. The station has entertained and informed the New River Valley for more than 25 years.

Safety: The Allen Building houses the RU Police Department and is across the street from Porterfield.  Campus police provide a variety of public services to ensure the safety of RU students, faculty, staff and visitors. Telephone call boxes, linked to the police department, are located throughout campus, and a walk home service is provided from dusk until dawn.
